John F. Schuhmacher, MD on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Age 70 years. Beloved husband of Lesley Creel Schuhmacher. Father of John Collin Schuhmacher and John Blake Schuhmacher. Grandfather of John Blaize Schuhmacher, John Carter Schuhmacher and William Blake Schuhmacher. Brother of William James Schuhmacher.
A native of Alva, Oklahoma, he graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. He served in the Navy as a general surgeon aboard the USS Ogden. He performed his residency in neurosurgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. He was in private practice for 33 years at East Jefferson General Hospital.
Dr. Schuhmacher was board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He was a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a Member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Southern Neurological Society and a charter member of the Louisiana Neurosurgical Society.
